Resembling something which should be found in Iceland, Pen Pych waterfall is a series of cascades which tumble over a sheer sided sedimentary rock face. The base of waterfall is enveloped by a half amphitheatre cliffs which only adds to the waterfalls impressive appearance. Theres is no plunge pool at the base of the falls, instead the tallest section spills 21m onto number of boulders which have tumbled from the cliffs above in years gone by. The path will lead you to a large rocky viewing area to the right hand side of the falls beneath the cliffs. You can climb up to the base of the falls, if you do do that take care as the rocks can be very slippery. (https://ohwhataknight.co.uk/blog/pen-pych-mountain-and-waterfall-hike-guide)

Lluest-wen Reservoir was constructed in 1898, but came to national attention in 1969 when a major leak caused an evacuation of residents down-valley while emergency repair work was carried out. Back in 1929 the place set a maximum daily rainfall record for Wales, with 211mm of rain recorded. You have been warned!

Berw Nant-yr-Ychen / Virgin Falls, drops an immense distance, over a series of steps. From the base of the first drop to the base of the waterfalls is approximately 69 metres - a record total height for Wales. Don't be tempted to get the "best view" on the very edge. Respect the terrain and take care.

Certainly. For a shorter, accessible walk that still includes the area's famous scenery, the Pen-Pych Waterfall loop from Blaenrhondda is a great option. It's under 3 miles (4.7 km) and takes you to the base of the impressive waterfall without the strenuous climbs of the longer mountain routes.
Yes, the trails around Treherbert are generally dog-friendly. The open mountains and woodland paths offer great spaces for dogs to explore. However, you may encounter livestock on the higher ground, so it's important to keep your dog under control, especially during lambing season.
Most hikes to Pen Pych start from the villages of Blaencwm or Blaenrhondda at the head of the valley. There is on-street parking available in these areas, which serve as the main starting points for the trails leading up to the mountain and its waterfalls. Please park considerately of local residents.
The majority of the popular trails in Treherbert are circular routes. They are designed to take you up onto the ridges for fantastic views and then loop back down through the forests or past historical sites, returning you to your starting point without needing to retrace your steps.
The paths can be steep and uneven in places, particularly on the ascents to the mountain ridges. After rainfall, which is common in the Welsh valleys, trails can become very muddy and slippery, especially in the wooded sections and near waterfalls. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended.
Many trails incorporate remnants of the region's coal mining past. As you hike, you'll often see the terraced housing typical of the valleys, old railway lines, and regenerated industrial landscapes.
