Buckden is the epitome of a cute, charming Yorkshire village. Very nicely placed in the valley between the two tops of Birks Fell and Buckden Pike, both of which are Nuttalls. The walk to Buckden Pike from alongside Buckden Beck is particularly spectacular with its many waterfalls. There is also a good car park with toilet facilities just on the outskirts of the village.

Well I will just shut up as I didn't get any views at all. It was such a miserable day but a great all round walk. I would love to do it on a blue sky day! You could also do Birks Fell the same day, making for a 17km total hike.

Dogs are generally welcome on public footpaths in the Yorkshire Dales. However, you will be walking through farmland with livestock, so it is crucial to keep your dog on a lead and under close control at all times, especially during lambing season (spring).

Parking availability depends on your chosen route. The village of Buckden has a Yorkshire Dales National Park car park, which is a convenient starting point for many popular trails. The weather in the Yorkshire Dales can change quickly, even in summer. It's essential to wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots. Dressing in layers is recommended, including a waterproof and windproof outer jacket. Always carry a map, compass, and plenty of water, especially for longer hikes onto the fells.
Bishopdale is a tributary valley of Wensleydale, so it offers a quieter, more intimate hiking experience. While Wensleydale has major attractions and wider valley floors, Bishopdale provides a sense of peaceful seclusion with its rolling hills, meandering beck, and classic patchwork of drystone walls and field barns.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.6 stars. Reviewers often praise the quintessential Yorkshire Dales scenery, including the rolling green hills, drystone walls, and tranquil paths along the river valleys. The mix of gentle riverside walks and challenging moorland hikes is also a frequently mentioned highlight.
