Buckbarrow

Whin Rigg

Whin Rigg is a 1,755-foot (537m) fell in the South Western Lake District. It forms part of a stretch of high ground that hugs the south-eastern edge of Wast Water which is the deepest body of water in the Lake District. Walking the full ridge to Illgill Head in both directions is recommended so you can fully appreciate the jutting cliffs that curve in and out from the main ridge. Spectacular!

Muncaster Fell Summit

The Wainwright Outlying Fell summit of this fell is actually the outcrop 115 feet (35 m) north of the trig point that most people class as the summit of this magnificent fell! Beautiful views to Black Combe and across Eskdale.

A splendid hill with a wide-ranging panorama of both Cumrbian coast to the west and mountains to the east. This Outlying Wainwright Fell makes for a lovely ramble from Egremont, Cleator Moor or Ennerdale Bridge. The nearby Nannycatch Gorge is also well worth checking out, under the slopes of Flat Fell.

Walls Castle Roman Bath House

The tallest Roman building in the north of England, Walls Castle is the remains of a Roman bath house. Two of the rooms still maintain their original height of 13 feet (4 m). Remains of the Roman Bath House. There was a fort on the other side of the road extending to the cliffs along the sea shore.

Buckbarrow was the first of my three Wainwrights today and it is a short but stiff old climb from the road but it is on a decent path and the views are great.

Set out from the National Trust car park at 7.30am in the morning on a blue sky day and by 8.30am we were on the top and couldn't see 50m in front....bummer!
