The John Muir Way runs 135 miles (217 km) across central Scotland from Helensburgh on the Firth of Clyde to John Muir's birthplace Dunbar on the Firth of Forth. It is named after John Muir, the famous conservationist who founded Americaâs National Parks. The trail is a unique journey on a fully waymarked trail for cyclists and walkers through the countryâs natural, cultural, and industrial heritage. It covers a wide range of scenery, from upland paths, rolling farmland, canal towpaths, woodlands, and country parks. There are even sections of beaches and clifftops in the east coast section. Here at Abercorn, you have fine, uninterrupted views of the Forth Bridge, an iconic symbol of Scotland that is one of the most famous bridges in the United Kingdom.

I've never cycled through here before, so it was lovely to see sheep and deer grazing, not bothered by visitors.

The builder of Midhope Castle, which was built in the late 16th century, is Alexander Drummond of Midhope of the Drummond clan. It later passed to the Earls of Linlithgow of the Livingstone Clan. Two additions on the east side were added at an unspecified date in the 17th century. Midhope Castle was the location of Lallybroch's Outlander television series based on the books of Diana Gabaldon's Highland saga. (Wikipedia)

Great view of the three bridges and out across the Firth of Forth. A good gravel track runs along the coast from Bo'ness to Queensferry.

Lovely gravel trail through the trees that hugs the shoreline of the firth. Although it's unsurfaced it's manageable on a road bike. We were loaded up for touring and it was a little bit bumpy but definitely worth riding.
