August 11, 2024, Altyre House Cross-Slab

South of Sueno's Stone in Forres https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/5577156 stands this similar stone. The Cross-Slab from Altyre House. Evidence for discovery: recorded as standing on rising ground in a field belonging to Longhillock Farm and moved around 1800 to a field north of Altyre House. A very tall and slender slab, this formerly bore a plain cross with a small head and very long shaft carved in relief on both broad faces, but the cross-head on face C has eroded away, leaving only the shaft. At the base of the shaft are traces of a stepped base. Date: late eighth or ninth century - https://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=7639 - https://canmore.org.uk/site/15812/altyre-house

Sanquhar Pond is fed by and empties into the Burn of Mosset which eventually flows into Findhorn Bay. There are many mountain bike and walking trails in the extended park around the loch with some bike jumps to be found.

Sanquhar Loch is a tranquil stretch of water close to the town of Forres. The lake is surrounded by pretty woodland that is home to much wildlife and has trails to explore. A great hike from here is along the loch and up Cluny Hill to Nelson’s Tower.
