August 15, 2025, View of Slioch

A highlight of this route is the view of Slioch from the unusual angle on the north side of Loch Maree, a long way from the nearest road. On this day the view was enhanced by the hill fog breaking like a wave on the seashore over the summit of Slioch.

The view from the Brae road to the west of Poolewe across Loch Ewe to Beinn Airigh Charr is a sight to behold, particularly in the early morning or late evening.

The trail is truly beautiful. Be sure to slather on plenty of smidges, which ate us whole the day we walked. Dutch mosquito repellent doesn't help one bit. Buy Smidgy. A head net wouldn't have hurt either.

The whole segment between the lighthouse and the old army base is NOT suitable for bikes. There is no clear path and it is a 10km scramble between rocks and bogs. Very beautiful views but better to approach as a hike rather than pushing the bike across!!!

Nice store (Mace), small but well organized and very cute family cafe right across the street.
