The cafe reopened in 2024, the outside seating area is great, made from old whiskey barrel staves but the outside serving area is not always open. There is now a parking fee, so bear that in mind if you are planning to start your ride from the falls.

The Dornoch Firth Bridge was opened by the Queen Mother in 1991 and carries the A9 trunk road north from Tain saving a 26-mile (42 km) detour via Bonar Bridge. The bridge has a sleek low-profile and comprises 21 spans each about 44 m long. The Bridge length is about 1 km but the approaches at each end of the bridge make the total walking distance to cross the bridge about 3.3 km (2 miles). The 1 km bridge length has good concrete footpaths on each side of the road. However, the two bridge approaches lack a proper footpath and here you will need to walk either on the side of the road or on loose stones between the road and a barrier. Although the A9 is often busy with traffic, the 3.3 km walk gives fine views – especially inland to the west. Crossing the bridge can be exhilarating but the thundering noise from large lorries passing nearby can be unpleasant.
