St. Jakob is the Catholic parish church in Schrobenhausen. It dominates the town skyline of Schrobenhausen and is used by the parish of St. Jakob Schrobenhausen in the Diocese of Augsburg. The late Gothic, plastered brick building is a three-aisled, five-bay hall church with an ambulatory choir. Construction lasted from 1450 to around 1480. The Ingolstadt Cathedral of Our Lady influenced its architecture. The buttresses on the south side are decorated with tracery. The exterior is impressive, with its octagonal tower and pointed spire above triangular gables (raised between 1617 and 1624) and the high roof truss from the time the church was built. The interior is topped by a star-ribbed vault over impostless round pillars without transverse or transverse arches, thus demonstrating a strong unification of the space. The attached St. Francis Chapel above the sacristy, formerly the charnel house, also has a star vault, but with brick ribs. In 1461, murals were created with a Marian cycle above the sacristy entrance and, to the east, with the 15 signs before the Last Judgment, as well as a crucifixion on the south wall.
