Very friendly staff. Especially the groundskeeper was helpful and accommodating in all respects. The site itself meets modern standards and there are restaurants and shops nearby. All in all, would gladly come again. LG

The name goes back to the “mountain” Höllengrundsberg, 156m, in the immediate vicinity… with a wink, the road that leads past it could be called a pass 😏… true to the motto: enjoy more, complain less…

In the middle of the historic town of Torgau, on the southwestern edge of the old town, stands the striking water tower, an impressive testimony to the urban infrastructure of the early 20th century. Built in 1903 under the direction of the engineer Pfeffer, the tower once served as the central water source for the entire city. With its imposing height of 45 meters and a capacity of 500 cubic meters of water in the basin, Torgau's water tower was an important part of the city's supply. The red clinker building impresses with its elaborate, historicist design. The circular tower shaft, which tapers towards the top, is characterized by tracery cornices above the base zone and in the transition to the cantilevered tank floor. Narrow, dark-framed slit windows and crenellated window bays on the eaves give the tower a medieval appearance, while the entrance decorated with crenellations and the year 1903 and a sandstone plaque with the city's coat of arms underline its historical character. The conical roof with superstructures completes the impressive appearance.

"A piece of history along the S-Weg: The former border between Prussia and Saxony" After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 regulated the reorganization of Europe after the defeat of Napoleon and his allies in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig, the Kingdom of Saxony had to cede parts of its territory to Prussia. The new border line ran along the S-Weg and across the Dahlen Heath. In the forests south of Schildau you can still find the old border stones that mark the former border in several places. These stones are engraved with "KP" and "KS", which stand for Kingdom of Prussia and Kingdom of Saxony and are reminiscent of the border established in the Congress of Vienna. Interestingly, this border was not revised until 1990, when the East German states were re-established in the final phase of the GDR. Citizen surveys showed that the majority of the northern Saxon areas should be annexed to Saxony again. Tip: the Napoleon Stone is located nearby. According to legend, Napoleon camped there during his retreat on the eve of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig.
