Einsiedel came into the light of history in 1260, when a brother Radnoldus gathered brothers around him in a hermitage that bore the name "Ryffendal". In 1264, the complex was incorporated into the Neustadt monastery as a provostship. This happened at the time of the conflict between Mainz and Rieneck, with which Würzburg, to which Neustadt was subordinate, wanted to secure its possessions in the Hafenlohr valley. In the 15th century, the name "Einsiedel" prevailed. Two abbots of the Neustadt monastery came from here. In 1483, the provostship was abolished, converted into a monastery farm and leased out. All that remained was a chapel, which was completely renovated in 1705 by the most famous Neustadt abbot, Bernhard Krieg. He also had the farm, house and barn rebuilt. The house, bearing the year 1795 and the monastery's coat of arms with the initials of the last Neustadt abbot, Johann Baptist Weigand (1788-1803), was later inhabited by forest workers, forestry families and then by the glassworks manager and the local teacher. Source: Information board at the site Einsiedel is a hamlet belonging to the municipality of Hafenlohr in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart. Einsiedel was built in 1275 as the provost's office of the Neustadt monastery. In 1483 it was converted into a monastery courtyard. After Einsiedel passed to the princely house of Löwenstein, a glass factory was set up there. Since 1977, the princely forestry office of the Löwenstein wildlife park has been located here.
