It's simply great that something has also been done here along the Nidda regarding "re-naturalization".

As the bridge spans the Westhafen and industrial areas, you look out onto a very busy river landscape. You see container terminals, warehouses, and often heavy barges on the Main.

Under the motorway, over the Main. Easy-to-ride crossing over the Main in the Frankfurt city area without stairs and/or cars.

The renaturalization project was only effectively completed at this location in 2025. Before that, it was "nice," but nothing more. Today, at least here, one can get an impression of what the Nidda might originally have looked like. A little further downstream towards Höchst, there is also a more natural stretch – otherwise, unfortunately, it's still a very straightened river, yet still one of the most beautiful sections in Frankfurt.

It covers an area of approximately 4.5 hectares and lies within the districts of Frankfurt-Bonames and Frankfurt-Kalbach-Riedberg. After its closure, it was transformed into a nature and recreation area in 2003/04 by the "Green Belt" project group and the GTL Landscape Architects office, for which they received the German Landscape Architecture Prize in 2005.
