The Church of the Good Shepherd is one of Rotenburg's two diaconal institutions. In 1905, the Hamburg Sisterhood of Bethesda moved to Rotenburg and built a deaconess house. Together with the deaconesses and the residents of Rotenburg, the church was consecrated in 1912, after about two years of construction. The church was named after this Sunday's Gospel, in which Jesus Christ says: "I am the good shepherd. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, and I give them eternal life." (John 10:27f) The interior of the church was painted by the then church painter Rudolf Schäfer (1878-1961). The altarpiece, a triptych depicting the birth of Jesus, the five wise virgins, and the disciples of Emmaus, the cross, and the window on the east side of the church have been preserved. Rudolf Schäfer lived in Rotenburg; the small regional museum "Rudolf Schäfer Haus" in the pedestrian zone was his studio and home. His grave is located on the south side of the apse. https://www.nordwaerts.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten-museen/poi/kirche-zum-guten-hirten-rotenburg-100051041/

The granary in Unterstedt was saved from decay by the local association and offers a historical ensemble with a rest area and oven. If you like, you can also start two northern paths from here, as the access path runs directly along the Spieker.
