Windmills have existed in Wanzer since at least 1611. This particular windmill was built in 1805, though originally in Pollitz, 3 km away. It was moved to Wanzer in 1868 and is now maintained by many volunteers. We were lucky enough to witness an interior inspection.

When you travel along the Elbe, you usually don't see much of the river, as it's behind the dike. Here you have the opportunity to rest on top of the dike. Wonderful view.

It is picturesquely situated directly on the Elbe dike. A café and farm shop are right next door. You can sit on the dike under a tree with a wonderful view of the river.
