Originally built by King Christian IV (1588-1648) and once owned by the Danish naval hero Niels Juel (1629-97), Valdemars Slot is Denmark's largest private residence and the only privately owned royal palace. Located on the island of Tåsinge, the estate is one of Denmark's most scenic spots. Troense harbor on the island of Taasinge is located in beautiful nature in the cozy shipping town of Troense, which is known for its pretty old half-timbered houses. From the harbor you can follow the traffic into Svendborgsund, e.g. you can watch the sound cruise M/S Helge - a comfortable transport option to go out to Svendborg or Valdemar's Castle. Valdemar's castle is about 1 km from Troense harbor. https://www.visitsvendborg.de/svendborg/svendborg/troense-hafen-gdk762323

The castle is located on the site of the medieval castle Kærsgård. King Christian IV partially had this demolished when he had the palace built from 1639 to 1644 for his son Valdemar Christian from his second marriage to Kirsten Munk. The remains of the castle were integrated into the new building. The castle was built in the classic Renaissance style.

We drove along this railway embankment as an alternative to the road. It was a small detour, but much quieter and more relaxing than the road.
