Nice old town and beautiful tower.

Faaborg's old town is one of the best-preserved in Denmark. Particularly noteworthy is the free-standing bell tower of the old town church of St. Nicholas, which was abandoned and demolished after the Reformation to make way for the Holy Spirit Monastery Church as the new parish church.

In the center of Faaborg still stands the belfry of the town's first church, St. Nikolaj Church. Today it is the town's landmark. When the church, built around 1250, was demolished after the Reformation in 1536, the belfry remained standing. It was built a little later than the church and therefore required little maintenance. It also served as a landmark for sailors. Today, the belfry still serves as the belfry for Faaborg's parish church, Helligåndskirken, which replaced St. Nikolaj Church as the parish church when it was demolished. A visit to the belfry offers the opportunity to admire the amazing structures of the medieval building up close, with vaulted ceilings and large oak structures that lift the tower to a height of 31 meters. When you make your way to the top of the tower, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view over Faaborg and the archipelago. The carillon with 38 bells was donated in 1960 by the wine consultant Andersen, Odense. The bells were cast in Holland. Today, the carillon plays 4 times a day with modern digital technology. The melodies played in the belfry change throughout the year. https://www.visitfaaborg.de/faaborg/urlaub-planen/faaborg-glockenturm-gdk613731
