Beautiful, shady location at the confluence of the Almersbach and Wied, bench nearby. People have been making pilgrimages here since the 13th century through a ford. The beautifully situated Almersbach church with late Romanesque origins stands enthroned above.

Even though the religious community that used to be based here left the Marienthal monastery a decade ago, the pilgrimage church was open when I visited today and was visited by some people for silent Eucharistic adoration. Next to the church there is a statue of the Sacred Heart and behind it a Lourdes grotto has been built.

From there you can turn off at several points up to the Westerwaldhöhen and from there you can ski down charming routes with a great view back into the Wiedtal.
