You have to climb 52 steps to the top. Those who don't dare can simply stay below and enjoy the view from the covered seating area. A beautiful spot on earth "up here".😉

With its centuries-old houses, Duderstadt is one of the towns on the German Timber-Frame Road. The city largely owes its escape from wars to its location away from important transport routes in the scenically attractive Eichsfeld region between the Harz mountains, Weserbergland and Ohmgebirge. The city had its heyday in the 13th and 14th centuries, when merchants conducted brisk trade. With the decline of the Hanseatic League in the 15th century, Duderstadt also went downhill, and in 1424 a fire destroyed more than 300 houses. If one looks more closely at the well-known Merian engraving of Duderstadt from 1646, a tower on the hill at the left edge of the picture, west of the Westerturm above the St. Martini Chapel, catches the eye upon second glance. It shows the contour of the Sulbergwarte, which still greets travelers coming from the west today. The watchtower today again has a pointed roof, which had apparently already disappeared in Merian's time. This is evidenced by archaeological excavations carried out during the renovation of thewarte in 1998, with the find of roof tiles in front of thewarte from the time of construction around 1400. These renovation works were carried out by the city and supported by the support group for monument and cityscape preservation as well as further citizen donations. The tower is a popular destination for hikers or cyclists who traverse the beautiful landscape of the Eichsfeld on their way to thewarte. The Sulbergwarte can be visited at any time.
