Haha, funny title... I'm from the Netherlands and live near the Belgian border. The asphalt in Belgium is often poor quality, full of holes and potholes. 😅

About Bolt Tower Up to 1,200 tons of pig iron were produced every day in the bowels of blast furnace no. 1. Today, visitors can follow in the footsteps of this iron. The unique superstructure of Vysoké pece no. 1, which is more than twenty meters long, reaches a height of almost 80 meters. An external walkway connecting the individual levels encloses the glass cylinder suspended from the original structure of the blast furnace. The massive core of the superstructure is made of steel and contains an elevator, a spiral staircase and facilities for visitors. The roof terrace, equipped with binoculars, offers an exceptional view of Vítkovice, Ostrava itself, but also of the distant surroundings with the fascinating horizon of the Beskydy Mountains.

Bolt Tower is the highest geographical point in Ostrava, visitors can enjoy the view from a height of 78 metres. It grew on the blast furnace no. 1 on the former mining site in Dolní Vítkovice. The shape of the tower is reminiscent of the fire that burned here during the productive period of the site. Now, in addition to the view, it also offers multifunctional rooms and an excellent café. The signature on the wall commemorates the person who christened the building. In 2015, Jamaican record holder, world champion and Olympic champion Usain Bolt visited Ostrava several times during the local Zlatá tretra competition. Inside the blast furnace No. 1, up to 1,200 tons of pig iron were produced daily. Today, visitors can follow the traces of iron production here. The unique, over 20-meter-high superstructure above the blast furnace No. 1 increases the total height of the tower to almost 80 meters. An outer walkway circle around a glass roll fixed above the original blast furnace structure connects the different height levels. The solid core of the superstructure is made of steel and includes an elevator, spiral staircase and visitor facilities. The observation deck on the roof, equipped with telescopes, offers an exceptional view of Vitkovice, Ostrava itself and the distant surroundings with the breathtaking view of the Beskydy Mountains.

Crude steel production was stopped, and the last tapping took place on September 27, 1998. The liquid pig iron for further processing was then obtained from the New Ironworks for a while. In 2002, the Dul Hlubina coal mine, the coking plant and the blast furnaces were declared a national cultural monument.
