Zofia Kossak Birthplace Manor in Kośmin

Highlight • Historical Site

I visited off-season and a little after dark. The main gate was closed, but to the east, from the OSP side, there is a small gate leading inside. In the area, behind the manor, I saw several tourist shelters.

What remains of the fort is a hill with a monument, it is difficult to define its outline. Added memorial plaque. Terribly neglected pseudo stairs, after which you can't even enter the monument. Historical place, and so neglected.

Tips from the Community

Rafał Klisowski
July 25, 2025, Aleja Rodzin Dęblińskich Niosących Pomoc Żydom w Czasach Holokaustu

The avenue-memorial was unveiled in March 2022. The Jewish population first appeared here in 1837, in the village of Modrzyce—hence the "Modrzyce Jews." During the Holocaust, the century-old community was exterminated. During the German occupation, Poles also rescued persecuted Jews in Dęblin, which was particularly challenging. Tadeusz Opieka, with the support of several members of the Friends of Dęblin Society, initiated the creation of the monument and avenue, which commemorates over 20 Dęblin families. The path leads to the war cemetery. Fifty-one linden trees were planted along the avenue.
