The first mention of the parish dates back to 1289. The original church, built of stone and brick, was most likely built in the second half of the 13th century. At the end of the 15th century, the then-owner of the estate, Ernst von Tschammer, funded the reconstruction of the church and added a family (funerary) chapel with a crypt and portal dating from 1498. In 1491, the church gained a wooden, carved altar. In 1862, the current neo-Gothic tower was added. Despite numerous renovations, the church has retained its medieval origins and is a valuable monument due to its rich, primarily Mannerist furnishings, including epitaphs and the aforementioned family chapel.

The Tolerance Bridge, originally known as the Hindenburg Bridge, was built in 1916. It was built as a permanent crossing over the Oder River, replacing earlier temporary bridges and facilitating communication between the city on the left bank and Ostrów Tumski on the right bank.

Today, the Children of Głogów Monument is not only a significant element of the cityscape, but above all a place of remembrance and tribute to the victims who contributed to preserving Polish independence. It is a unique commemoration that is moving and prompts reflection on the ultimate price one can pay for freedom.

The famous Romantic writer, musician, and painter E.T.A. Hoffmann painted some of the church's frescoes during restoration work in 1795-1797 while serving his legal practice in Głogów, and later immortalized the church in his fantastic tale "Die Jesuitenkirche in G." (around 1817).
