Originally, an older building existed on the site of today's castle in Zabór (German: Saabor), but the current shape of the palace is the work of Joannes Schönaich, who commissioned the construction of a new, late Baroque residence in the years 1677-1683. The palace was built on a square-like plan, with four corner projections and a central courtyard, which was characteristic of palace complexes of the time. In 1711, the castle was acquired by Frederick Augustus von Cosel, the illegitimate son of King Augustus II the Strong and Countess Cosel. He commissioned further expansion and modernization works, transforming the palace into an impressive Baroque residence. During this period, the interiors gained rich decoration, and a large park in the French and later English style was created around the castle, which is an integral part of it to this day. Zabór became one of the most representative estates in Silesia at that time. Over the following centuries, the castle changed owners. In the 19th century it belonged to the von Schmettau family, and then to Prince Frederick Augustus of Anhalt-Dessau. A key change in the history of the castle came in 1945. After the end of World War II and the annexation of the Partition to Poland, the castle became state property. The castle in the Partition survived the war in relatively good condition. In the post-war years, the castle was adapted to the Provincial Children's Sanatorium, and then to the Center for the Treatment of Children and Youth. This medical function was maintained for many decades, which contributed to the preservation of the historic substance of the building. The interiors of the palace were adapted to the needs of a medical facility, losing some of their original decor.

This is the only farmstead in Poland modelled on objects from northern Romania, from where many settlers came to Poland after World War II as part of the so-called repatriation. The Bukovinians have retained their distinctiveness expressed in the form of costumes and rich folklore. Lubuskie has become their new small homeland. However, they cultivate the memory of their Carpathian land, where they lived for almost 200 years. We enter the farmstead through a high, wooden gate topped with ornately cut sheet metal. Many interesting details have been carved on it, including coats of arms and suns, characteristic of the Eastern Carpathians. In front of the house stands a well with a decorative casing, as do the gate and the cottage topped with decorative sheet metal. Next to it we will see a corn dryer, which is the basis of nutrition in Bukovina. Mamaliga is made from corn in various forms - sweet and savoury. There is also an exhibition showing the craft workshop of a manufacturer of wooden roof tiles called shingles. In a cottage with a wide arcade, there is an exhibition presenting the history of the Bukovina people. It contains many documents, photographs and memorabilia showing everyday life. We can also admire folk costumes, kilims, rugs and colorfully embroidered cushions. Source: https://muzeumochla.pl

The castle in Broniszów was built as a knight's building in the late Middle Ages. The first owner was supposedly Bronisław, Count of Bytom Odrzański. At the beginning of the 17th century, the von Kottwitz family expanded the castle into a Renaissance residence on the plan of the letter L. In the elevated, three-storey building, two representative halls were maintained on the ground floor: one of them is covered with a beamed ceiling with an impressive Renaissance stucco decoration from the end of the 16th century, the other is covered with a Renaissance vault with a fitting ornament. The main entrance to the castle is located in the northern façade. It is decorated with a stone late Renaissance portal with the inscription ANNO MISSERIMA FORTUNA QUAE INIMICIS CARET 1608. The Baroque reconstruction from the end of the 17th century brought a change in the order of the windows, a Baroque dome of the northern tower and Baroque plasters at the expense of Renaissance sgraffito plasters. In the 19th century, the castle was rebuilt again. A brick wall and a neo-Gothic observation tower were added to the Renaissance manor house, creating an internal courtyard. The manor house was surrounded by a moat with a pond. The 20th century was not easy for Broniszow Castle. After 1945, the castle gradually fell into ruin. The renovation of this architectural monument began in 2010 and continues to this day. Thanks to our work, you can stay in one of the rooms available to guests and visit the interior of the castle.
