Grójec on the Molnica River, mentioned as early as 1234 as "Groze", derives its name from the Old Polish word "grodziec", meaning: castle, town, town. In 1419 it received city rights. It developed successfully in the 15th and 16th centuries, obtaining privileges from Masovian princes and Polish kings. In 1564, as the seat of a non-town starosty, it had approximately 200 houses and 1,000 inhabitants. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, beer and lute strings were produced here, and there were several brick buildings, including the church of St. Nicholas Bishop.
