On August 15, 2023 (Polish Army Day), in Otwock, near the junction of Krucza and Armii Krajowej streets, a monument to the TS-11 „BIAŁO-CZERWONA ISKRA” aircraft No. 5 (fictional) in the colors of the national aerobatic team „ISKRY” was unveiled. The aircraft was acquired from the Military Property Agency in May 2021. The delivered aircraft is a 1977 PZL-Mielec TS-11 Iskra DF (3H-1629) flying with the side number 1629. The „Biało-Czerwona Iskra” monument commemorates Polish pilots – soldiers serving the Homeland, and in particular two of them: Maj. Tomasz Pajórek and Maj. Mariusz Oliwa, who died on November 11, 1998, in an air crash in Otwock-Soplicowo. They were performing a weather reconnaissance flight before an air show over the capital on Independence Day, on the 80th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. As reported by news services, „The commission of the Ministry of National Defence determined that the cause of the tragedy was the loss of orientation by the crew, who had not turned on the de-icing system for the instrument probe sensor”. „On Independence Day, November 11, 1998, an „Iskra” aircraft, flying from Mińsk Mazowiecki for weather reconnaissance before a parade of other machines over Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, crashed at 11:42 AM (elsewhere I also found information that the crash occurred at 10:40 AM) near Otwock after a few minutes of flight in very difficult weather conditions. Nevertheless, two Su-22 military aircraft flew over the city and the honor stand with the most important people in the state at a very low altitude. Two Mig-29s turned back, as the pilots considered the flight a life hazard”. After the crash, the „ISKRY” aerobatic team from Radom was disbanded. In 2000, the team was reborn as „Biało-Czerwone Iskry” at the Flight Training Center in Dęblin (this was related to the reorganization of Polish aviation). It operated until July 27, 2022.

A nicely located popular confectionery. Unfortunately, popularity sometimes comes at the cost of looooong lines. There are other similar places in the area. https://cukierniasosenka.pl/
