From December 1914 to July 1915, the front line ran near Sochaczew and Bolimów, along the high banks of the Rawka and Bzura rivers, and on the marshes stretching along them. Positional fighting was part of an operation called the Battle of Rawka. There were numerous bloody clashes along the rivers, artillery attacks, and the use of chemical weapons by the German side (near Bolimów). Tens of thousands of soldiers of the Tsarist and Imperial Armies died. Many Poles were among the dead.
