This imposing castle once belonged to the Teutonic Order. Over the centuries and through successive successions, it became the property of the princes, and later the bishops of Varnia. For about seven years, the castle served as the residence of the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. The residence was then owned by his uncle Lukáš Vatzenrode. Between 1858 and 1932, the palace was used as an orphanage and a hospital. World War II brought its own changes, transforming the castle into a prison for Soviet soldiers. The castle was the residence of many important personalities such as: Nicholas Copernicus - astronomer and doctor, Jan Dantyszek - secretary to the king, bishop and poet, the historian Marcin Kromer or the poet Ignacy Krasicki. The castle has a museum with exhibitions dedicated to its important residents and art collections. The castle grounds were adapted into a comfortable hotel. On the hill, a few hundred meters from the castle, rises a classicist orangery from the time of Bishop Ignacy Krasicki. Other important monuments are: the Gothic Wysoka Brama gate with fragments of the city walls, the Gothic St. Peter and Paul Parish Church, a large wooden church built in 1818–1823 for the Protestants, inspired by the works of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, now an Orthodox church Church. There is a historic hydroelectric power station from 1908 on the Łyna River. On the city limits in the direction of Olsztyn rises the Krzyżowa mountain (133 m above sea level), a viewpoint of the city and its surroundings. A modern leisure complex Termy Warmińskie was built at the foot of the mountain.

Bishop's Castle in Lidzbark Warmiński - a castle from the 14th century located in Lidzbark Warmiński, one of the most valuable monuments of Gothic architecture in Poland. The castle was built in the years 1350-1401. Construction works began a year after the seat of the Warmian bishops was moved from Orneta (German: Wormditt) to Lidzbark Warmiński (German: Heilsberg). The construction of the castle in its original shape was started by bishops, from Herman of Prague to Henryk Sorbom. The building was built on a quadrilateral plan with dimensions of 48.5 x 48.5 m. During the term of office of Bishop Sorbom, the castle courtyard was surrounded by two-story cloisters. Built at the fork of the Łyna and Symsarna rivers, the castle was additionally protected by perimeter walls and moats from the south and east (the eastern moat parallel to Symsarna). The outer ward was located in the southern part of the castle. Access to the castle from the city was through the Mill Gate on the bridge over the Łyna to the northern outer ward, where a water mill was located. Then you had to drive along the western side of the castle through several gates to the outer ward on the southern side. The outer ward was separated from the castle proper by a dry moat.
