Obbach belonged in the times of the Old Empire to the Imperial Knights. Under the village rule of Kasimir von Seckendorf between 1527 and 1542, the place became Protestant. In 1924, the church patronage passed to the industrial family Schäfer with the acquisition of the Obbach castle estate. The church was built between 1766 and 1767. The construction execution is typical for rural churches in Franconia after the Thirty Years' War.

Incidentally, the church in Rundelshausen only got a "real" church tower in 1950. In the same year, three new bells were installed in its bell tower. They are made of cast iron and were cast in Bockenem am Harz. The largest bell supports the prayers of the faithful with its inscription and its call: "Saint Peter of Alcàntara, pray for us."
