The station is so run-down that it's almost in working order again. Old railway vehicles (burned-out steam locomotives and old wagons) are scattered around the large grounds. There are also many disused tracks, including turntables. At the end of the station, the former storage sheds have been converted into wine shops and restaurants.

A worthwhile museum, which scores points despite/or because of its very minimalist presentation of the subject matter. At the end, enjoy a port wine on the terrace of the museum's café.

The bridge is really well-made. The view from the bridge is beautiful, even though there's still a lot that could be done with the buildings at the end.

A bridge with a horizontal deck over three unequal round arches, the central one being the largest. The pillars have triangular buttresses upstream and downstream. The parapet protecting the bridge deck rests on a carved tubular cornice. Crowning the buttresses, four semicircular balconies with stone benches open onto the deck. At each end, the bridge boasts two pairs of faceted Baroque spires resting on small spheres.

Touring cycling around Gove primarily involves unsealed tracks, dirt roads, and off-road trails. The main access road, the Central Arnhem Road, is described as a "beaten-up dirt track with multiple river crossings." This terrain is best suited for robust touring setups like mountain bikes or gravel bikes, rather than conventional road touring bicycles.
Yes, permits are crucial for visitors to the Gove Peninsula. A permit from the Northern Land Council (NLC) is necessary for road travel on the Central Arnhem Road. Additionally, a visitor's permit from Dhimurru Land Management is required to access designated recreational areas and for bush camping. It's essential to plan ahead and secure these permits.
The ideal time for outdoor pursuits, including touring cycling, in Gove is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. During this period, you can expect cool, cloudless, and balmy conditions, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 28-30 degrees Celsius, making it very pleasant for cycling.
While dedicated touring cycling infrastructure is limited, off-road enthusiasts can explore options like the "kens track" near the Gove BMX track. This is a 2.5 mile (4 km) loop offering varied trails and a cross-country experience, though it can be overgrown and challenging to find. Many local touring cyclists also enjoy navigating the region's remote dirt tracks and coastal areas, which are generally suited for mountain bikes or gravel bikes.

The region also features diverse ecosystems like the Gayngaru Wetlands, which are great for wildlife observation, and mangrove areas where you might spot sea turtles, dugongs, and various bird species. The adjacent Arafura Sea is also a prominent feature.
Given the remote and rugged nature of the Gove Peninsula, with its unsealed tracks and off-road trails, dedicated family-friendly cycling routes suitable for young children or less experienced riders are not widely available. The terrain is generally more suited for experienced cyclists equipped for challenging off-road conditions.

Many adventurous cyclists create their own loops by exploring the network of unsealed tracks and coastal areas.
Given the remote and rugged nature of Gove, self-sufficiency is key. You should pack appropriate gear for off-road conditions, including a robust mountain or gravel bike, repair kits, ample water, navigation tools, and sun protection. Due to the limited infrastructure, carrying sufficient supplies for your journey is highly recommended.
Information regarding public transport specifically for accessing cycling trailheads in Gove is scarce. The region is remote, and visitors typically rely on private vehicles, often 4x4s, to navigate the unsealed roads and reach various points of interest. While cycling directly to cultural sites might be limited by terrain and permit requirements, visitors can engage with traditional Aboriginal communities and explore cultural experiences like the Yirrkala Art Centre.
