Additional Information: St. Peter's Basilica is the first church in the Archdiocese of Braga to receive the title of basilica, an indult granted by Pope Benedict XIV in 1751. The construction of the temple we see today began in 1782, after a previous chapel had been erected on the same site in 1737.
