The Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guja is preceded by the Hermitage of S. Julião (St. Julian), which already existed in 953 and is mentioned in the inventory of the Monastery of Guimarães in 1059. In addition to religious purposes, the chapel served as part of the defense system at the mouth of the Ave River and collaborated with the Fortress of Saint John the Baptist before its construction was completed. The exact date of construction of the current building is unknown, but studies point to the 16th century. It has a rather uneven plan with two naves, with the main entrance facing north and a sacristy next to the main chapel. The dome above the main chapel bears similarities to that of the Soçorro Chapel. Inside, tiles of great importance can be seen, as well as exquisite panels on the ceiling.

Built in 2007 in the waters of the Ave River, the replica of Vila do Conde's 16th century ship is an important and precious addition to the museum nucleus of the Museu Régia - Museu da Construção Naval. It was built with the greatest respect for scientific research and incorporates the ancestral knowledge of the carpenters and caulkers behind the clocks of Vila Conde.

The Portuguese ship of the 16th century was a round ship, high-sided, with a ratio of 3:1 between length and maximum beam, three or four decks, stern and forecastle, with three or two decks. It had three masts, the mainmast and the foresail with round cloth and the mizzen with lateen cloth. Of course it's a replica!

The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia is located in the extreme south-west of the town and is also a calling card for those who enter via the mouth of the Ave river. The fishermen of the north pray to it and its location right at the mouth of the river serves as an aid to them in crossing this natural barrier. It is the oldest building in the town. References to this can be found in the inventory of the monastery of Guiamrães from the 11th century (1054).
