The large Catholic Church of St. George in Hochstadt (district of Oberhochstadt) is located directly on the main street. It "was built in 1749 after a predecessor building from 1251. [...] The church tower dates from 1864. In 1969, the nave was extended by a modern building and the church interior was oriented to the north. [Meanwhile], the interior was enhanced by the acquisition of three colored windows with biblical motifs." A viewing tower surrounded by vineyards, it offers a 360° panoramic view. The viewing platform is accessible via 18 steps. Inside the tower, there is a shelter, and outside there is seating with a table and benches, as well as a sun lounger. This place is known locally as the "Love Island". From the high vantage point on the Essingen district, the view sweeps far across to the prominent points of the Haardt: Weinbiet, Hambach Castle, Kalmit, Kropsburg, Rietburg, Villa Ludwigshöhe and Blättersberg. The modern menhir was erected on the Essingen Roßberg as a memorial stone to mark the completion of the land consolidation (in two stages from 1992 to 1995).
