The view from this high plateau around the Millstätter Alpe is simply gigantic. In May we still had patches of snow in the sunshine and you feel like you are in another world up there. The dry, short grass crunches with the lichen under your shoes. The landscape seems rough with its rugged rocks, some of which look like barrows and are inhabited by marmots. I felt like I was on a tundra expedition. Wonderful!

It's quite easy to climb from the cable car station, which is why it's relatively busy. Typical panoramic mountain

Radenthein is ideally located for exploring the Nock Mountains, which are part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Carinthian Nockberge, and the Mirnock massif. Both offer diverse hiking experiences and stunning natural beauty.
Yes, the region offers several family-friendly options. The Arkerkopf is highlighted as a great choice for families, providing an accessible 'first summit' experience in the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve. Additionally, the Wöllaner Nock Summit is considered family-friendly and easily accessible from the Kaiserburg cable car mountain station.
The region is known for its unique geological features. The Mirnock region, for instance, offers the opportunity to explore 'garnet – 'Blood drops of the Nock'' in nearby gorges. Another impressive destination is the Millstätter Alpe Plateau, also known as the 'Realm of the flint of love' due to its garnet deposits.
The Granattor (Garnet Gate) is a significant and highly recommended destination near Radenthein. While not a peak itself, this impressive gate-like structure is adorned with garnets, reflecting the region's rich mining history. It offers spectacular views of the surrounding Nockberge mountains and Lake Millstätter See, blending geological wonder with scenic beauty.
Many trails in the region provide spectacular views of Lake Millstatt. The Stana Mandl Cairn on Lammersdorfer Mountain offers a wonderful view of the Millstätter See and the peaks of the Carinthian Nockberge throughout the ascent. The Granattor also provides excellent vistas of the deep blue lake.
Absolutely. Peaks like Predigerstuhl (2,170 m), Pfannnock (2,254 m), and Mallnock (2,226 m) are part of a challenging but rewarding stage of the Alpe-Adria-Trail. Conquering these summits offers a true sense of accomplishment and allows you to experience the diverse flora of the region.
The Alpe-Adria-Trail is a long-distance hiking trail that indeed passes through Radenthein. Sections of this trail involve conquering peaks like Predigerstuhl, Pfannnock, and Mallnock, offering breathtaking views of Lake Millstätter See and the surrounding mountains.
Visitors appreciate the diverse hiking experiences, ranging from easy paths to more challenging routes. Many highlight the stunning panoramic views, especially of Lake Millstatt, and the unique geological features like garnet deposits. The Falkertspitz Summit is praised for its beautiful and easy-to-reach summit with a great view, while the Wöllaner Nock Summit is loved for its beautiful mountain panorama.
Yes, during winter, a ski tour on the Mirnock massif is possible, offering a different way to experience the mountain landscape. While the region is primarily known for hiking, some peaks can be enjoyed in the colder months.
Beyond hiking, the area around Radenthein offers various outdoor activities. You can explore numerous road cycling routes, enjoy gravel biking, or go for a run on the many running trails. These routes often provide views of the surrounding peaks and lakes.
After a hike, you can find places to rest and eat. For example, the Lammersdorfer Hütte, mentioned in tips for the Stana Mandl Cairn on Lammersdorfer Mountain, offers fantastic views and good food. The Heidialm near Falkertspitz Summit also has wonderful huts to stop off at.
The Mirnock massif, directly at Radenthein's foot, is known for its legends, varied trails including a 'legend hike,' and geological interest with garnet. The Nock Mountains, part of a Biosphere Reserve, are characterized by 'gentle mountains, open alpine pastures,' and offer peaks like Predigerstuhl, Pfannnock, and Mallnock with diverse flora due to alternating bedrock. Both offer stunning views, but Mirnock has a more localized, folklore-rich feel, while the Nock Mountains provide a broader alpine pasture experience.
