Buckeye Falls in Sharon Woods Park is a small waterfall that drops roughly 10 feet in height. The falls are easily accessible via the Gorge Trail. Being one of the only waterfalls in the Cincinnati area, it is definitely worth the visit to Sharon Woods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any easy, beginner-friendly hikes in the area?

Yes, most of the trails here are well-suited for beginners and casual walkers. For a very accessible option, consider the Sharon Woods Lake loop from Sharonville. It's a relatively flat and short walk around the lake, perfect for a relaxed outing.

What are the trail surfaces like?

The trails in this area typically feature a mix of surfaces. You can expect paved paths, especially around the main lake loops, as well as natural-surface dirt trails in the more wooded sections like the gorge. The terrain is generally well-maintained.

Are there any circular or loop trails available?

Absolutely. Most of the popular routes are loops, which means you can start and end at the same point without retracing your steps. A great example that combines different parts of the park is the Sharon Woods Lake to Gorge Trails Loop.

Can I bring my dog on the trails?

Yes, dogs are generally welcome in the parks, but they must be kept on a leash. The paths around the lakes and through the woods are great for exercising with your canine companion. Always remember to clean up after your pet to keep the trails enjoyable for everyone.

Are there any trails suitable for families with children?

Definitely. The area is very family-friendly. For a fun and manageable hike with kids, try the Buckeye Falls – Gorge Trail loop from Sharonville. It's short enough for little legs and the scenery along the gorge and near the falls adds an element of adventure.

What kind of scenery can I expect on the hikes?

The hikes offer a lovely variety of scenery. You'll experience serene lakeside paths with open views across the water, as well as shaded, wooded trails that follow a picturesque gorge. The area is particularly beautiful with the changing leaves in the fall.

Is there a longer trail for a more challenging hike?

Yes, if you're looking for a longer outing, the Sharon Woods Lake – Buckeye Falls loop from Sharonville is the most substantial option. At nearly 6 miles, it combines several trail sections and includes some moderate inclines, offering a good workout.

What do other hikers think of the trails here?

The trails are very highly rated by the komoot community. Hikers often praise the well-maintained paths, the beautiful lake views, and the peaceful atmosphere of the wooded gorge sections.

Are there any waterfalls on the trails?

Yes, you can see a waterfall on some of the routes. The Buckeye Falls are a key feature of the gorge area. To see them, you can take a route like the Buckeye Falls – Gorge Trail loop from Heritage Village Museum, which leads you through this scenic part of the park.

Is there an entrance or parking fee?

Many parks in the region are part of a county park district that may require a vehicle permit for entry. It's always a good idea to check the official park website for the most current information on fees and passes before you go.

What should I pack for a day hike in this area?

For a day hike, we recommend bringing water, especially on warmer days. Wear comfortable walking shoes suitable for both paved and natural surfaces. It's also wise to have sunscreen, insect repellent, and a small snack. A map or the komoot app on your phone is also helpful for navigation.
