View of Bad Wimpfen's Old Town

Highlight • Viewpoint

Bad Wimpfen is located on the left bank of the Neckar about 10 km north-northwest of Heilbronn, as the crow flies. Its older part, Wimpfen im Tal, runs along the river in its left-hand floodplain, which is quite wide. A little west of there is Wimpfen am Berg on the upper slope to the left of the river valley that rises towards the Kraichgau. There, in the Middle Ages, the Staufer Palatinate and the mountain town were built on an eastern spur above the slope of the river below, which turns north, and the small side valley of the Adamsgraben, which tapers bluntly from the southwest. The newer parts of the city spread out on a flatter slope, especially to the west.

Bad Wimpfen also includes the suburb of Hohenstadt, two kilometers to the northwest, which is located on the left slope of a slightly larger side valley that runs east towards the Neckar.

With the exception of a tiny gap at the mouth of the Jagst opposite Wimpfen in the valley, the urban area of Wimpfen lies to the left of the Neckar and is mostly on undulating land about 200-250 meters high. There is only a narrow strip of forest on the Neckar slope, as well as somewhat larger forest islands on the northern and western city limits. The majority of this hilly plain drains directly to the Neckar via small valleys. Only in the southwest do some watercourses beyond the city limits initially flow to the Böllinger Bach, a slightly longer tributary of the Neckar.

the old railway line has already become a great bike path - unfortunately it's more of a dry spell in terms of gastronomy - at least on Mondays! References to supply stations are therefore welcome for everyone. I photographed some and published them on my Kocher-Jagst tour.

We first drove to Bad Wimofen via the Kraichgau. That was the first 85 km. We spent the night in Wimpfen and set out for the Jagst-Kocher cycle path the next morning. A great bike ride along the Jagst to Jagsthausen. The transition to the stove is a bit difficult, but our e-bikes helped us there. Beautiful villages and towns and the tour along the two rivers was beautiful. We drove 85 km, stayed overnight in Bad Wimpfen and drove to Heddesheim the next day, often along the Neckar. Another 75 km.
