The viewing pavilion of Bohemian Switzerland. A wonderful and spectacular view. The path is a bit strenuous - this should be taken into account. Unfortunately, also totally overcrowded, it is recommended to go early in the morning or in the evening!

Nestled in the picturesque mountains of Dittersbach (Jetrichovicer), the Marienfels towers, crowned by a pavilion that impresses not only with its architecture but also with its attention to detail: the Mariina Skála. This building embodies the symbiosis of human creation and natural beauty and is a true masterpiece. A short but intense climb leads to the summit. And although the path is demanding in places, the effort is quickly forgotten once you reach the top. Because up there, high above the valley, there is a view that is second to none. Especially in the morning light, when the first rays of sun break through the fog and bathe the valley in a golden light, you witness a natural spectacle that is second to none. The hut, where you can find protection from wind and weather, was designed with a lot of dedication and a sense of detail. It is a place of peace where you can stop and fully enjoy the beauties of Bohemian Switzerland. Despite the popularity of this place and the often numerous visitors, there are moments of silence, especially at the end of the day, when the sun bathes the sky in warm colors and you have the breathtaking scenery almost to yourself.

Nice cozy restaurant in the heart of the national park. There are hearty meals, but also smaller dishes such as tarte flambée or cheese variations. It is open from April to October, always from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ascent short and sweet. There is a fantastic view at the top. Highly recommended, especially in the morning at sunrise when the sun shines down into the valley, with a bit of luck you can have beautiful foggy patches.

Bohemian Switzerland has so much to offer. This lovingly prepared pavilion and the other views nearby are absolutely worth the climb. The climb itself is very exciting. There are obviously always a lot of people up there. We were there at the end of our tour (just before sunset) so there was no one else up there and you could really enjoy the wonderful view with the evening atmosphere at sunset. Simply unforgettably beautiful!! I can only recommend it to everyone!!

Very nice view and the pavilion is really well done. The ascent is relatively easy, although the steps are very high, especially at the beginning. Very busy on weekends in summer.

Yes, several huts and trails are suitable for families. The Old Armory (Großer Zschand) and Neumann Mill are both categorized as family-friendly and offer facilities. For easy walks, consider routes like the "Adventure trail Waldhusche" or the "Dachsenhältersteig – Flößersteig Ascent loop from Hinterhermsdorf," which are part of the hiking guide for Hinterhermsdorf.
You'll find several huts providing food and drinks. The Old Armory (Großer Zschand) is a hut and restaurant, historically a hunting base, and a recognized stopping point. The Rinden Hut at the Upper Lock (Kirnitzsch Gorge) offers hot meals, coffee, cake, and even schnapps. The Neumann Mill also features an inn with overnight accommodation and a restaurant.
The region has a rich history reflected in its huts. The Old Armory (Großer Zschand) served as a hunting base for Elector August von Saxony in the 16th century. The Neumann Mill is a historic papermaking mill where you can still see original tools and machines, offering a glimpse into past craftsmanship.
Yes, for those seeking more challenging experiences, the ascent to Schlegel Hut, Hermannseck, particularly through its crevice, is considered a highlight on the Flößersteig trail, rewarding visitors with views. The Mariina Skála (Marienfels) Viewing Pavilion also offers sensational views after a rewarding climb. For difficult hiking routes, consider options like the "Weifberg Observation Tower – Weißbach Valley loop" or the "Wild Kirnitzsch Valley – Königsplatz Viewpoint loop" found in the Hinterhermsdorf hiking guide.
The region is known for its sandstone formations, deep gorges, and extensive forests. You can find stunning viewpoints like the Mariina Skála (Marienfels) Viewing Pavilion, which offers incredible panoramic views. The Schlegel Hut, Hermannseck also provides rewarding views after its unique ascent. The Rinden Hut at the Upper Lock is nestled directly between rocks on the Kirnitzsch river, offering a picturesque setting within the gorge.
Beyond visiting huts, the area offers diverse outdoor activities. You can explore numerous hiking trails, from easy family walks to more challenging ascents, detailed in the Hiking around Hinterhermsdorf guide. There are also dedicated running trails and gravel biking routes that traverse the scenic landscape, including the Kirnitzschtal and national park areas.
The region is beautiful year-round, but the summer months (typically May to October) are ideal for hut hiking, offering pleasant weather for exploring trails and enjoying outdoor facilities. Some huts, like the Old Armory (Großer Zschand), confirm their opening hours during the summer season. Winter hiking is also possible, but some trails might be more challenging due to snow and ice, and some facilities may have reduced hours.
While the main huts are popular, the extensive network of trails allows for quieter experiences. The region's charm often lies in discovering smaller, less frequented paths that lead to serene spots. For a unique experience, the Neumann Mill, while historical, offers simple accommodation in a dormitory style, providing a different kind of hut stay away from typical mountain hut crowds.
Yes, many routes in the area are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end in the same location while visiting huts. For example, the "Dachsenhältersteig – Flößersteig Ascent loop from Hinterhermsdorf" is an easy option, while the "Flößersteig Ascent – Königsplatz Viewpoint loop from Hinterhermsdorf" offers a moderate challenge. You can find more circular routes in the Hinterhermsdorf hiking guide.
Given the diverse terrain, including sandstone formations and potentially narrow crevices, sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support are essential. Layered clothing is recommended to adapt to changing weather conditions, as temperatures can vary, especially at higher viewpoints. A waterproof jacket is advisable, and for challenging ascents like the one to Schlegel Hut, a compact backpack is best due to narrow passages.
Hinterhermsdorf itself is accessible by public transport, typically via bus connections from larger towns. From the village, many trails and huts can be reached on foot. While specific public transport links directly to every hut might be limited, planning your route from a central point in Hinterhermsdorf will allow you to access the majority of the region's attractions.
