This is where the beautiful car-free bike path starts that goes up for hundreds of miles. Bring some water with you just in case because there are no stores to buy any food or drink. Buying food or drink requires leaving the path.

For anybody tired of the Manhattan highlights I absolutely recommend The Cloisters. Built in the 1920s with remains and artifacts of churches and abbeys from France, Italy and Spain it displays Christian art of the 11th to 15th century. The way it is presented allows for close up looks and reveals many of the intricate details that otherwise go unnoticed. From Manhattan a 30 minute subway ride on line A.

Here you finally leave New York City and the actual bike tour can begin. The well-developed cycle path takes you through nature and only a few villages to Albany (if you want :-) ). From time to time you can buy food and, above all, use the tools and air pump of the numerous self-service bike stations.
