Historic covered bridge that crosses over the Ammonoosuc River. Beautiful views of the surrounding area and river. Please note you will have to hop off your bike and push it over the bridge but its well worth it.

Like most NH rail trails this one is gravel and not in great shape. I am fine with stone dust but this was big rocks of gravel. This ride was so bad I just gave up and got on the road instead. If you're really in to off road it's ok but otherwise I'd stay away

Lisbon offers a diverse range of touring cycling experiences. You can find predominantly flat, scenic paths along the Tagus Riverfront, extensive trails with varied terrain in Monsanto Forest Park, and challenging coastal or mountainous routes within the Sintra-Cascais Nature Park. Further south, the Arrábida Nature Park provides a mix of tree-lined paths and more strenuous climbs through its mountains.
While Lisbon is known for its hills, the Tagus Riverfront offers many flat and scenic sections ideal for leisurely rides, perfect for families or beginners. The Parque das Nações area, in particular, features wide, well-designed bike lanes. For a moderate option, consider the Lower Lisbon Dam – Ammonoosuc Rail Trail (gravel) loop from Littleton, which provides a balanced cycling experience.
The Tagus Riverfront is a significant draw, offering continuous waterfront views from areas like Cais do Sodré to Belém and extending towards Parque das Nações. Monsanto Forest Park, known as the 'Lungs of Lisbon,' provides a vast network of trails within the city. For more challenging rides, the Serra de Sintra within the Sintra-Cascais Nature Park is very popular.
You can expect a variety of stunning views. Along the Tagus River, you'll see iconic landmarks and cityscapes. From Monsanto Forest Park, you'll get panoramic views of Lisbon. Coastal routes in Sintra-Cascais Nature Park offer breathtaking vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, sandy beaches, and rugged cliffs, while Arrábida Nature Park provides views of lush forests and secluded coves.

Many historical and cultural attractions are easily integrated into cycling tours. Along the riverside, you can visit Praça do Comércio, the Belém District (home to Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries), and Parque das Nações with its modern architecture. The LX Factory, a creative hub, is also accessible along the Lisbon Waterfront route.
Lisbon generally enjoys mild weather, making touring cycling pleasant for much of the year. Spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures and less crowded conditions. Summer can be warm, especially inland, but coastal and riverside routes often benefit from refreshing breezes. Winter is typically mild but can bring more rain.
Lisbon's growing bike-friendly infrastructure and public transport options can help. The Green Corridor allows cyclists to reach Monsanto Forest Park from central Lisbon. For navigating the city's inclines, Lisbon's bike-sharing system, Gira, offers e-bikes, making it easier to combine cycling with public transport to reach starting points for routes further afield.
Absolutely. For experienced riders seeking challenging climbs and breathtaking landscapes, the Serra de Sintra within the Sintra-Cascais Nature Park offers strenuous mountain trails and panoramic vistas. The Arrábida Nature Park also presents mountainous terrain with some remote routes that can be quite demanding. A difficult route to consider is the Lower Lisbon Dam – Cherry Pond loop from Beaver Brook Recreation Area, spanning 144.2 km.

Yes, especially along the more urban and popular routes. The Tagus Riverfront, particularly in areas like Belém and Parque das Nações, has numerous cafes and restaurants. Coastal towns like Cascais also offer many dining options. For longer tours, exploring typical villages in areas like Arrábida Nature Park can lead you to local eateries and wineries.
While Lisbon is becoming more bike-friendly with an expanding network of bike lanes, some areas still have narrow, cobbled streets and significant inclines. Always be mindful of traffic, especially in busier city areas. When venturing into natural parks, ensure you have appropriate gear and check route conditions. E-bikes can be very helpful for tackling the city's hills.
