This forest service road is a popular approach route to Marlette Lake, but it's expected to be closed through 2026 for repairs to the Marlette Lake dam. Until this trail reopens, the Capital to Tahoe Trail is a good riding alternative in the area. You can get updates on the trail closure at Nevada State Parks: https://parks.nv.gov/news/trail-closures-at-spooner-lake-state-park-backcountry-for-marlette-dam-repairs

This state park has nearly two miles of shoreline and over 2,500 acres of forested mountains. The name of this park changed from Sugar Pine Point State Park to Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park in 2009 to honor Edwin L. Z'berg, a very environmentally-involved California state assemblyman.

It is a very pretty alpine lake, nestled at the base of the three towering peaks of Freel Peak (3,305 meters), Jobs Sister (3,299 meters) and Jobs Peak (3,233 meters). If there is not too much wind, the rocks and trees that surround it are almost perfectly reflected in its waters. A nice spot!

The Grid Bar and Grill is just called The Grid by the locals. Drinks and food here are delicious; it's also a karaoke hot spot a few times a week. Serving up Hawaiian Shave Ice and patio dining in the summer and hot appetizers and cozy interior all winter, it's a great spot to check out on a ride.
