Tips from the Community

September 19, 2025, Virginia City

In its heyday Virginia City was the richest, and roughest, city east of the Mississippi. It was also the place where Samuel Clemens transformed himself in to Mark Twain. These days the historic buildings are home to casinos, bars, cafes, museums and souvenir shops. Whether it's your destination or just a stop along the way, you won't have a boring time in Virginia City.

Popular museum for train history buffs. Worth even when closed, as some of the tracks, buildings, and historic trains are also visible from the outside

Often over looked due to its famous neighbor, Lake Tahoe, to the west Washoe Lake is a great place in its own right. The views are incredible and the activities are plentiful. Washoe Lake is popular for hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and camping. The State Park also has restroom and water facilities though these may be closed during the winter months.

There's a short bit of gravel on this alternate route between Reno & Verdi. If you've done the standard ride enough times and are looking for something different this is a good option. The gravel is generally in good condition but can get messy after a storm so you may need some bigger (30mm+) tires.

The main gathering point for residents of the Somersett neighborhood this "Town Center" has a number of bars & restaurants and a small market. Great place for a ride break.

Idyllic is the perfect word to describe Caughlin Ranch. The landscaping is immaculate, the parks are quiet, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful. Perfect spot for a family ride and/or picnic.

Very cool little museum even for those without a previous interest in trains. They have a number of events throughout the year and the grounds are always a nice spot for a rest. Restrooms and water are available as well.
