May 8, 2026, Self use rope "ferry" across Nine Mile Creek

The "Ferry" looks upgraded, as does the new bridge across fallen trees. Both options were not what I needed at my turn around point today, but I finally made it here from the West today! Woohoo!

The bridge made over fallen trees looked more less scary today, as it was just a foot or so above the water. Still looks a little scary, I didn't cross.

The Scoops Ice Cream shop was opened by Mark and Heidi Wavinak in 1994, and has served the West Bloomington community for over 30 years. The idea for the ice cream shop emerged when Mark promised his son ice cream for a hit during a baseball game at the nearby Dred Scott Fields, only to find no ice cream shops nearby. Later, the son designed a business for a school project called "Scoops." When the Wavinaks found a retail space across from the fields that matched the project's dimensions, they decided to open the shop. The shop operates in the spring and closes for the winter.

They have also added a "bridge" made out of a fallen tree with planks nailed to it and a rope "hand-rail". Looks challenging, but I think the water is too low to get the ferry across right now.
