Nice loop around the lake, I usually do this when I pedal in from Pine Island.

I think this is a former quarry, at least when I first pedaled here maybe 10 years ago, it was fenced off and there were diggers and stuff around the lake. It's definitely at least a run off pond now. But it is a great point to loop around before heading back to Pine Island when doing the Douglas State Trail.

The bike trail was nice, but from looking at the map I thought we would be able to see the lake. Since there are big houses on the other side of the lake, I guess they didn't want people looking at them, so they built a big berm with trees on it that blocks the view of the water and the houses from the bike path.

There was a service going on when I pedaled by this last time, so didn't get to spend much time, I'll have to stop by the next time.

From this highlight on the east shore of Cascade Lake, you can access a dedicated pedestrian and bicycle system of trails southwest along the South Fork of the Zumbro River, southeast along Bear Creek, west to Silver Lake and Quarry Hill Park, and north to the Douglas State Trail.

That's the spot where Bear Creek Trail starts or ends (depending on the direction you're walking) and you can switch to/from Downtown Loop. Besides that, you can see the union of Bear Creek and South Fork Zumbro River here. Enjoy the view from the benches nearby and take a rest before you continue your ride.

The Mayowood Trail around Bamber Lake is a lovely traffic free path to cycle on. As it is close to the lake you get the chance to look out for the varied bird and insect species that live around the lake.
