This is the eastern terminus of the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway along the north shore of the canal; there's a second bikeway along most of the south shore. Sometimes you can spot seals in the ocean near here!

The city of Sandwich is the oldest on Cape Cod. In the contact period, Sandwich was occupied by the Eastern Algonquian speaking Wampanoag who aided the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony in the 1620. A lot of old houses remain from that time.

Two excellent bike paths bordering the Cape Code Canal, but difficult, if not impossible, for the sane to cycle from one to the other. The sidewalk of the 2 bridges that ensure this link is less than 4ft (1200mm) wide, without a protective barrier separating automobile traffic from that of the sidewalk, even if the latter is raised (18in or 450mm) in relation to the roadway. Nothing to reassure the pedestrian or a cyclist even on foot. Really a shame that this link was overlooked.
