Avoid this route, after 3.4 miles the track is destroyed and impassable due to forestry. It is quite dangerous

The public byway (mostly suitable for gravel bikes) passes through fields becoming more well trodden as it makes it's way towards the farm at the top of the hill, where it transitions to tarmac all the way to the main road (A697).

The Harry Hotspur statue is located within the Alnwick conservation area on the grassed area with seating. Not far from the entrance to Alnwick Castle. This area has a large amount of historical content

Swathes of tree felling has happened in this area, this was due to storm Arwen in 2022. Large sections of Thrunton Woods have had to be felled for safety and to unblock tracks and bridleways. Work is still ongoing as of July 2024

Heading west over the Alnwick Moors, this is a long straight road with an old pathway on the right side, the surface of the path is broken up and far from smooth. Thankfully there was no wind on this day, westerly winds could make this section physically demanding
