The complex, built in 1240 as an imperial castle, was expanded into a palace in 1481 by Count Eberhard im Bart and once housed the Imperial Tower Banner. After a partial demolition in 1724, during which building materials were used for Ludwigsburg Palace, a new building followed in 1808. The historically significant building later served as a prison, orphanage, and teacher training college and today houses the Helene Lange supplementary grammar school.

The historic town hall of Markgröningen was built in 1440/1441 and is today considered one of the most important late Gothic half-timbered buildings in Southern Germany. The imposing monumental structure reflects the former economic heyday of the then Württemberg administrative town of Grüningen and was conceived from the outset as a clever, three-story multi-purpose building. While the open ground floor rests on 54 massive oak columns and formerly served as a market hall for meat, bread, and salt, the first upper floor was used as a cloth and wool market. The second floor housed the council chamber and the town court, as well as a large festival and dance floor. The masterful carpentry of the building was already praised regionally in the 16th century.

The Hohenasperg is worth a visit. You have a great view from there. In addition, a prison hospital is housed there... on our bike trip, we only rode past it from a distance. But we have already been there ourselves for a separate visit,
