The approximately two-hectare city moat is located in the heart of Wolfenbüttel. The body of water, which is the size of two large football stadiums, is used for a variety of purposes, which, however, also results in a lack of suitable refuges for rare (aquatic) animals and plants. And: Feeding waterfowl, as well as branches falling into the city moat, results in too many nutrients in the water. This has a negative impact on water quality and aquatic organisms, says Udo Berger, chairman of the angling club. The club has now implemented a joint project with the city of Wolfenbüttel to counteract these disadvantages for the local flora and fauna. For years, the angling club has been working to maintain and preserve native fish stocks in Wolfenbüttel's city moat. A few days ago, the club created two more floating islands in the city moat. One island was already installed last year.
