Cause of the Rossfeld Air Accident Clarified The accident at the Fliegerbergfest (Flying Mountain Festival) on the Rossfeld near Metzingen, in which one person was killed and others were seriously injured, was primarily due to pilot error, according to an expert report. Apparently, those responsible also failed to follow the instructions of a supervisory officer. Metzingen-Glems. Following an expert's examination of the helicopter wreckage and the preliminary report by the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation, a possible technical defect has been ruled out as the cause of the accident. The 79-year-old, experienced helicopter pilot, who holds a valid pilot's license, had demonstrated his helicopter the day before the accident from almost the same takeoff point without any incidents. Before the start of another demonstration on the second day of the event, he performed a 180-degree turn shortly after takeoff at around 4:15 p.m., before then flying sideways to the right to the area above the runway assigned to him for his demonstration.
