The British Yacht Club is open year-round. On summer days, you can enjoy a wide range of cold and hot drinks on the beach area and terrace, while watching the sunset. A small bistro menu is available. The winter months also have their charm. With around 1,000 seats, St. Gertrud is one of the largest churches in the Vechta district for the largest parish in the Oldenburg part of the Münster diocese. It is the city's landmark in the middle of the center on Rixheimer Platz and dominates the townscape not only because of its size but also because of its construction and location. Its towers are visible from afar. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1221, St. Gertrud has been known as the church's patron saint since the 15th century. The current church was built in the 19th century. Inside, St. Gertrud houses works by the Lohne artists Heinrich Klingenberg and Luzie Uptmoor. The richly decorated high altar with folding wings is particularly impressive. In front of the church you will find the St. Gertrud fountain: erected in 1993 by the Lohne-born artist Karl-Josef Dierkes. It depicts the abbess St. Gertrude with her three protective functions: for gardeners, the poor and sick, and travelers and pilgrims. Her monastery in Nevilles (Belgium) is also depicted, as well as the Crown of Charlemagne (she was the great-aunt of Charlemagne!). https://nordkreis-vechta.de/kirche-st.-gertrud/28081
