The lake is located in a terminal moraine area with very steep slopes and was formed during the last ice age from a former meltwater channel that permanently filled with water after the ice receded. One side is used as a recreational area, the other leads through allotment gardens.

There are no trash cans, perhaps for the better. Besides the covered rest area, there are numerous benches nearby if it's occupied.

It's amazing what's being done with EU funds. The rest area is located on the Hamburg-Rügen cycle route. Shelter and benches are available. Like everywhere else in the world, it's been littered and graffiti-covered by dim-witted people.
