Dobbertin Monastery is special in every way. It is picturesquely situated on Lake Dobbertin. It is the only monastery in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that belongs to the state. Dobbertin Monastery was a Benedictine monastery founded in 1234, which later became a nunnery. After the Reformation, decreed for Mecklenburg in 1549, the monastery became a Protestant convent in 1572. The Dobbertin Church is today the church of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Dobbertin, but also the "house church" for the diaconal institution. It is the only church in Mecklenburg with two towers. The elongated, single-nave space is vaulted. The Diakoniewerk took over operation in 1991 as an institution primarily for mentally disabled people, for whom the monastery is a new home. Guided tours take place from May to September on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3 p.m. In the workshops, visitors can get an insight into the work and lives of the residents of Dobbertin Monastery. A café by the lake, where tours are offered, offers refreshments and refreshments. "It's good to be here," one might say; everything invites you to linger.
