It was located on the Klenzer Mühlenbach (also Klenzer Mühlbach), a stream in the nature park Flusslandschaft Peenetal. Today, the site is marked as a historical/archaeological site; the mill itself no longer exists. The stream bed has recently been lovingly redesigned with funding and invites you to linger.

The Sankt Marien Monastery Verchen is one of the oldest nunneries in Pomerania. It was founded at the end of the 12th century. The location changed several times: first Klosterberg near Altentreptow (Marienberg), then Klatzow, in 1245 Marienwerder near Verchen, and finally from 1269 to Verchen itself. During the Reformation in 1534/35, the monastery was secularized (despite contrary resolutions of the state parliament), and the property went to the Pomeranian ducal house. The last nun died in 1581. Fires between 1560 and 1575 destroyed most of the monastery buildings; the church was preserved.

The park is an important resting area for Nordic migratory birds: Every year in autumn and spring, tens of thousands of Greater White-fronted Geese and Bean Geese, as well as Common Cranes, rest here, plus approx. 1,000 Great Crested Grebes and 2,000 Common Pochards. All three native eagle species (Lesser Spotted Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, and Osprey) breed here; beavers and otters are widespread. Other species: White Stork (in many villages), Marsh Harrier, Common Snipe, Bluethroat, etc.

The Kummerower See lies only about 0.2–0.3 m above sea level (parts of the surroundings even below). Through the Peene (the "Amazon of the North"), seawater can even penetrate at high Baltic Sea water levels and reverse the flow direction. Previously, the lake was also called "Große Peene".

Saying about the place name: Two princesses who built the castle are said to have assured each other "Dat Hus is din und min" ("This house is yours and mine") – from this the name is said to have originated (folk explanation).

Thanks to its shape and acoustics, up to 30 people can whisper secrets from one end to the other – the sound is directed along the bench, allowing for quiet and 'eavesdrop-proof' conversations. This is comparable to classic whispering galleries (such as the whispering arch in Görlitz).

The image shows the Luisentor. At 31 meters, it is the second highest city gate in Pomerania, after the Anklamer Steintor. It was the highest and most important gate of the Demmin fortification, because it secured the unprotected east side – the side from which most attacks came.
