December 8, 2025, Camelback Mountain Helipad View

Top off power hiking with elementary bouldering! It was in and out for me. 30 minutes up didn’t permit me to reach the summit, but the sunset made my “almost there” worth it.

This is one of the most popular mountains around Phoenix, with two well-established trails to the summit. Both are challenging, gaining a little more than 1,400 vertical feet in a very short distance, but they get you amazing, 360-degree views of the city.

The Old Town Scottsdale part of the Arizona Canal is a developed area of this century-old piece of infrastructure. It's great here for an early morning walk or bike ride. Outdoor art shows are frequently held here, and often they are placed in the water as well. On this side of the canal, enjoy wine tasting bars, boutique stores, and upscale dining.

Trail #100 or the Charles M. Christiansen Trail winds its way across the Phoenix Mountains Preserve and into the North Mountain Preserve. It's not the most technical or challenging route in Phoenix but it covers so much terrain you end up getting a little of everything. You can ride it as an out & back, return on some alternate trails, or get a few road miles if you need to save time. There is water available at the Dreamy Draw but it's best to have all you need for the ride.
